Śiva mantra-Namāmīśam

Namāmīśamīśananirvaṇarupam vibhum vyāpakam brahmavedarupam|

   Ajam nirguṇam nirvikalpam nirīham cidakaramakāśavāsam bhajeham||

  • Word Meanings:
  • Namāmi : I bow down
  • iśam: supreme Lord
  • iśāna: ruler/ master- name of the Śiva in the form of sun
  • nirvaṇarupam: a figure of supreme bliss
  • vibhum : name of the Śiva – all pervading, eternal
  • vyāpakam: an attribute to the Lord who extends over everything
  • brahmavedarupam: the lord who is the ultimate source of knowledge
  • Ajam : birth less or who is never born
  • nirguṇam : without any attributes
  • nirvikalpam : without the differentiation of known, knower, and knowing, and without even self consciousness
  • nirīham : desire less
  • cidakaram: in the form of supreme spirit / pure intelligence
  • akāśavāsam : the sky as his abode
  • bhajeham: my oblations 
  • Translation:
I bow down to the supreme Lord who is in the form sun and in a figure that shows supreme bliss. My oblations to the Lord who extends over everything, birth less( never born), without any differentiation of known, knower and the knowing, desire less, made sky as his abode and in the form of supreme spirit( pure intelligence).
