  1. 1.       Śāntakāram bhujaga śayanampadmanābham sureśam|
Viśwakāram gaganasadrusam meghavarṇam śubhāngam||

Laksmikāntam kamalanayanam yogihrdhyāna gamyam|

Vande vishṇum bhavabhaya haram sarva lokaikanādham||
  • Word Meanings:
    • Śāntakāram: personified tranquility
    • bhujaga: serpent
    • śayanam: lying down
    • padmanābham: an epithet Of the Lord( Lotus flower  comes out of his Nabhi- umbilicus)
    • sureśam:  lord of the  devatas
    • Viśwakāram: universal Lord
    • gaganasadrusam: all pervasive like sky
    • meghavarṇam: like the color of a dark cloud
    • śubhāngam: auspicious limbs
    • Vande: I salute
    • Viṣṇu: Lord Viṣṇu
    • bhavabhaya:  worldly terrors
    • haram : takes away
    • sarva: all
    • lokaikanādham: Lord to  whole universe 
  • Laksmikāntam: consort of Goddess Lakshmi
  • kamalanayanam: eyes like lotus petals
  • yogiḥ dhyāna: resides in the hearts of yogis
  • gamyam: accessible
 
  • Translation:
 My salutations to Lord of the universe- Sri Maha Viṣṇu who is a personification of tranquility, lies down on the ten headed Vāsuki, who is the Lord of all Devatās, a Padmanābha, he who is in the form of all pervasive sky- a universal Lord, is in the color of dark cloud and eyes like lotus petals, whose limbs are auspicious, who is the consort of Goddess Lakshmi, he who resides in the hearts of Yogis, takes away worldly terrors can be easily accessible to all.
